Smart home planning for busy family homes

Most homes want three things: a warm house that is not wasting money, lights that do not need a lecture, and a front door that knows who has a key. Everything else waits until it earns its place.

A couple in the kitchen of a 1930s semi at the end of the day, one at the thermostat, the other unpacking shopping.

The things people are actually fed up with

  • A heating schedule set years ago that nobody has dared change.
  • Smart bulbs that only work from one person’s phone.
  • A doorbell camera that films the street and misses the parcel.
  • Rented, so anything that needs a screwdriver is off the table.

What is included

  • A call with everyone who lives in the house, once your photographs and notes are in your project.
  • A map of what you already own and what can stay.
  • A plan in plain English, with a shopping list and prices from at least two shops.
  • A renter-safe version where nothing is hard-wired, if you need one.
  • Four weeks of adjustment after anything is fitted.

Quoted per home once we have talked, and the plan is yours whatever you decide. Renting? The plan is written so it moves out with you.

Questions families and renters ask first

If yours is not here, the free call is the place for it.

We rent. Is any of this for us?

Yes. Plug-in thermostats, battery sensors and bulbs go in without a screwdriver and move out with you. The plan says which parts are which.

Will it save us money?

Heating is where the money goes, so that is where the plan starts, and the plan shows the running cost of everything on it before you buy any of it. Whether it saves you money depends on how the house is run today, and I will tell you that honestly on the call rather than promise a figure.

Which brand should we buy?

Whichever does the job at the best price you can find. I do not sell equipment and nothing on the list is there because it pays me, so the plan names what to buy and why, with at least two places to buy it.

What if we already have some kit?

Usually most of it stays. The Map stage exists for exactly that — what you own, what still earns its place, and what is only in the drawer because it was never set up.

Twenty-five minutes, and an honest answer

Tell me what annoys you about the house. If a £30 plug timer fixes it, that is what you will hear.
