The SMART method

Survey, map, architect, rollout, tune, complete

Six stages, in that order, every time. You can stop at the end of any of them and keep everything produced so far. The same six stages appear in your portal, so you always know where your own project has got to.

Live example — a project mid-flight

This is the portal component, unchanged, shown here on purpose: what you meet on the website is what you get inside your account.

What you get at the end of each stage

  1. Stage 1

    Survey

Your home, shown to me remotely.

    You end up with

Your photographs, videos and notes of every room, added to your project after the first call; a follow-up call to go through them; and an honest answer on whether you need me at all. I do not visit — the survey is done from what you show me.

  2. Stage 2

    Map

What you own, on one page.

    You end up with

A one-page inventory of everything you already own, what can stay, what is doing nothing, and what would have to go.

  3. Stage 3

    Architect

    The plan, in plain English.

    You end up with

The plan in plain English: what the home will do, the shopping list with what to buy, and what it costs to run.

  4. Stage 4

    Rollout

Fitted in phases, set up remotely.

    You end up with

The kit fitted in the phases you signed off — by you, or by an installer I recommend — and configured by me remotely, on a session you watch and can end at any time. Nothing is ordered before you have approved the phase it belongs to.

  5. Stage 5

    Tune

    Four weeks of adjustment.

    You end up with

Four weeks of adjustment. Timings change, things move, and anything that annoys you gets undone.

  6. Stage 6

    Complete

    Handover pack and guide.

    You end up with

The handover pack: a printed plain-English guide, a second copy written for whoever helps you, and every plan file to keep.

Start at stage one, and stop whenever you like

The first call is free and costs you nothing if the answer is that you do not need me. If you go ahead, the plan is yours to take elsewhere — it is written so any installer could follow it, and I never fit anything myself.
